Six months into pandemic pause, Carnival cancels more cruises into spring 2021

After more than six months on operational pause due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Carnival Cruise Line on Wednesday announced additional voyage cancellations into late spring of next year. Carnival also announced that it will sell Carnival Fascination, launched in 1994, and Carnival Imagination, launched in 1995.

As a result of the line's "ongoing ship enhancement program" and the continued halt in cruise operations, Carnival is delaying the return of four ships until enhancements are complete, leading to some cancellations into April:

  • Carnival Magic
    • Itineraries from Miami are canceled until March 13.
  • Carnival Paradise
    • Itineraries from Tampa are canceled until March 19.
  • Carnival Valor
    • Itineraries from New Orleans are canceled until April 29.
  • Carnival Spirit
    • Itineraries from Brisbane are canceled through May 16.
    • The first sailing will be the Singapore to Brisbane voyage on June 12.

“As we continue to work through issues related to our eventual return to operations, we are committed to providing our guests and travel agent partners with certainty where we can, although we regret disappointing our guests,” said Carnival Cruise Line President Christine Duffy in a release provided by spokesperson Vance Gulliksen.

Dusk descends over the Carnival Fascination.

The two ships to be sold had been put on long-term lay-up status and had already been removed from published itineraries. Their sales align with Carnival Cruise Line's parent company Carnival Corporation's plan to remove less-efficient ships in its fleet. In July, the company sold Carnival Fantasy and Carnival Inspiration.

“While we are sad to see Carnival Fascination and Carnival Imagination leave our fleet, it is a necessary move as it allows us to focus on ships that offer the greatest variety of features and stateroom accommodations for our guests,” Duffy said.
