A Dover native is serving his country aboard a Navy ship in the Atlantic Ocean.

Lieutenant Junior Grade Jarred Reid-Dixon has served in the Navy for three years and is a public affairs officer on the USS James E. Williams. On board, he is responsible for the mini-mart, barbershop, laundromat and banking for sailors on the ship.

“The favorite part of my job is seeing the morale of the job go up specifically because of my division,” Reid-Dixon said. “We run all the essential services including the ship's store, which is a huge deal when you’re underway and deployed for a while.”

Reid-Dixon is a 2012 Caesar Rodney High School graduate and a native of Dover, Delaware. He is a 2017 United States Naval Academy graduate. According to him, the values required to succeed in the Navy are similar to those found in Dover.

“My parents have always taught me to 'figure it out' and to 'never give up,'" Reid-Dixon said. “I’ve applied those basic principles to everything that I do as a leader and as a naval officer.”

Serving in the Navy is a family tradition and one he hopes to continue.
