In response to the coronavirus outbreak, the Dover Police Department will be fully operational, but the officers will limit contact by offering services online and by phone.

The online crime reporting system, found at, will be used for crimes or incidents that are not in progress and with no suspect information immediately available. Examples: theft, criminal mischief (vandalism), theft of services, shoplifting without suspect information and others as deemed necessary by a supervisor.

All emergency needs should still go through 911. The link to the online crime report site is available on the menu of the department’s home page.

The department will continue operating 24 hours a day and will respond to any call where an officer’s presence is necessary. All nonemergency (not in progress) calls should go to their nonemergency number: 302-736-7111.

Anyone displaying symptoms of sickness is discouraged from entering the lobby of the Dover Police Department. Unless there is an emergency or someone has an appointment with an officer, the department asks everyone to avoid coming inside.

The department’s response will be constantly re-evaluated and updated as necessary to ensure that no interruption to high quality service occurs during this time, said spokesman Master Cpl. Mark Hoffman.

“Please remember that we are working in a fluid environment and will have to make real-time decisions quickly to ensure the health, safety and welfare of our officers, civilian staff, and the Dover community,” he said.
