The Dover Senators defeated Caravel Academy, 68-52, in the DIAA Boys Basketball State Tournament Semifinals, Thursday night at the Bob Carpenter Center.
In a tight game early, the Senators pulled away late behind Eden Davis and Elijah Allen who combined for 44 of Dover’s 68 points.
Davis led the Senators with a team-high 23 points to go along with four steals and two assists; Allen ended the night with 21 points, six rebound and three steals while going a perfect 17-for-17 from the free throw line.
John Lassiter was the third Senator to finish in double-figures, scoring 12 points against Caravel.
One major difference Thursday night came at the free throw line - Dover was 30-for-32 at the line, while Caravel got to the line just 20 times, going 15-for-20 at the charity stripe.
Despite being outrebounded 50-37, Jyheim Spencer and Eric White helped control things underneath; Spencer finished with nine boards and a remarkable eight blocks, while White pulled down 10 rebounds and finished with three blocks.
The Senators led by just two after one quarter and trailed by a point, 24-23, going into halftime. Dover began to pull away in the third, building a seven point lead heading into the fourth quarter where they would outscore the Buccaneers 26-17, punching their ticket to the state championship game.
Dover will go for their first state championship Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. against No. 1 Sanford who defeated St. Georges Tech in the second semifinal contest Thursday night.
