The Colonial Rotary Club of Dover addressed the final details of the forthcoming 32nd annual Dover Mile and Colonial 5K Run at a recent club meeting.

Leading the discussion were incoming Club President Alex Vaughan and Ray Parker, of TriSports. This year’s event will be held June 12, rain or shine. The starting and finishing line will be located at the Governors Café, 144 Kings Highway SW, Dover, across from Woodburn, the Governor’s House.

Vaughn went over the details indicating that there were some changes, one of these being the route for the mile run. Rather than going up State Street as in the past, the route will be along American Avenue, to Maryland Avenue, down to Delaware Avenue, then Kent Avenue and finally Kings Highway, ending back at the Governor’s Café area.

Another change will be the availability of greeters, who will welcome and assist runners by directing them to the proper registration table. Due to the new route, a $600 savings is estimated, as fewer police officers will be needed to stop incoming traffic. This route also does not require a bus to bring runners to the starting line.

Registration will begin at 5 p.m., the flag ceremony will start at 5:30 p.m., the Dover Mile will begin at 6 p.m., and the Colonial 5K will begin at 6:30 p.m. Awards are set for 7:45 p.m.
