Kent County Public Library, 497 S. Red Haven Lane, Dover, announced its schedule of programs and events for April.

Programs are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted. A parent or other responsible adult must be present in the library, including during programs, for any child/youth younger than 16. Pre-registration is required as noted. To register, visit the circulation desk or call 744-1919.

— Preschool story time: 10 a.m. Thursdays. Preschoolers can enjoy a special themed story time, followed by a related craft.

— Breakfast Book Club: 8:30 a.m. April 1. Participants will share current reads with the group — no assigned book. Coffee, tea, pastries doughnuts will be provided, or bring a brown bag breakfast.

— Introduction to Yoga: Noon April 1. A one-hour introduction to yoga that includes stretches and basic postures designed for beginners. Guests should bring a yoga mat or large towel. Must register.

— Foodies Book Club: 2 p.m. April 1. Participants will join a discussion on food-related books. See a staff member for selections.

— The Women of Shakespeare’s Histories: 6 p.m. April 2. Jeremy Wear, associate of English at Wesley College, will present a lecture on women characters in Shakespeare’s history-based plays.

— Arts & Letters Book Club: 12:30 p.m. April 3. Participants will join a discussion on books related to the arts. See a staff member for selections.

— PAWS for Reading: 6 p.m. April 4 and 18. Children read aloud for 10 minutes to a friendly therapy dog provided by PAWS for People. Studies have shown that reading aloud to animals can actually help children improve their reading skills. Must register.

— Friday Movie Matinee — “An American in Paris”: 3 p.m. April 5. This month’s films are classic musicals. Three friends struggle to find work in Paris. Things become more complicated when two of them fall in love with the same woman.

— Amazing Animal Adaptations: 6:30 p.m. April 9. Explore incredible animal adaptations with live animals and amazing specimens from around the world with the Delaware Museum of Natural History Mobile Museum.

— Friday Movie Matinee — “Easter Parade”: 3 p.m. April 12. This month’s films are classic musicals. A nightclub performer hires a naive chorus girl to become his new dance partner to make his former partner jealous and to prove he can make any partner a star.

— Delaware Anime Society: 1 p.m. April 13. Ages 13 and older. The Delaware Anime Society is for those with an interest in anime, manga, music and pop culture to meet in a relaxed atmosphere.

— Toddler Dance Party with Unbranded Dance: 10 a.m. April 17. Preschoolers are encouraged to join Unbranded Dance for some basic movement and dance instruction, along with a storybook or two.

— Art Explorers “Introduction to Drawing People”: 6:30 p.m. April 22. Young artists ages 8-12 come together to explore the creative process. Supplies included. Must register.

— Friday Movie Matinee — “Guys and Dolls”: 3 p.m. April 26. This month’s films are classic musicals. In New York, a gambler is challenged to take a cold female missionary to Havana, but they fall for each other, and the bet has a hidden motive to finance a craps game.

— Sakura Mini-Matsuri: 1 to 4:30 p.m. April 27. In Japanese, sakura means cherry blossom and matsuri is a festival. Celebrate Japanese culture with crafts, traditional dance and cultural performances and more.

— Community Baby Shower: 3 to 6 p.m. April 29: Local community/government and businesses will be providing information about their services available for parents, parents-to-be and grandparents.
