The new video released Monday, Jan. 21.
New Zealand sensation Drax Project celebrates the New Year by teaming up with Hailee Steinfeld for a fresh take on the infectious pop anthem "Woke Up Late."
The track pairs smooth pop vocals, an irresistible beat and unapologetically candid lyrics detailing a night out/morning in. With the addition of Hailee's vocals, the collaboration exudes a contagious, bouncy energy that's sure to be on repeat on your playlist.
"'Woke Up Late' is about wrapping your head around the adventure of the night before and ultimately deciding that you're cool with it. Given the nature of this story, it did cross our minds while writing it as to how it might work as a duet - with a female voice telling her side. We're all huge big fans of "Starving" and "Let Me Go," so were beyond stoked to get Hailee on song! She absolutely kills it in movies and in music. We feel like having her vocals take both the sonics and the feel of the song to another level!"
MALLRAT TO PLAY IRVING PLAZA WITH GNASH
The 20-year-old Australian artist Mallrat has a penchant for writing sticky melodies that you just can’t shake - her music has garnered attention from the likes of NY Times, NOISEY, Stereogum and more, including NPR- who said that the only downside to listening to her track, "Better" is that your heart may actually explode with happiness. PAPER Magazine recently named her in their "100 Women Revolutionizing Pop", and she also opened for Post Malone and Maggie Rogers.
Having grown up in the sleepy town of Brisbane, Australia, Mallrat finds beauty in the mundane. With refreshingly honest observations of day-to-day life and her relatable and confessional lyrics layered over saccharine melodies, there's a slow-burning restlessness in her sound that is impossible to ignore - her songs perfectly encapsulate all the weirdness and wonder that comes with being a teenager. Interesting side note- Mallrat is vegan and she also discovered a new species of spiders as a kid (and met the Prime Minister because of it).
Mallrat will gig with Gnash at Irving Plaza in New York on Tuesday, Jan. 22.
