Fairview Elementary School hosted a My Very Own Library kickoff Dec. 3.

The program, sponsored by My Very Own Library program in conjunction with the United Way of Delaware, provides three free books to students, to promote literacy and encourage a love of reading.

The Dover High School drumline, Rolling Thunder, performed after the DHS Air Force JROTC presented colors, and Rhonda Braddy, the music teacher at Fairview Elementary, sang the national anthem. Fairview’s Voices of Unity Choir gave a rendition of “America the Beautiful.” Clifford the Big Red Dog from the “Clifford” book series danced to the drumline’s beat. The Fairview Elementary student lighthouse team emceed the event.

After the kickoff, each class had its turn to attend the Scholastic Book Fair within the school to choose their free books.
