Warren Hensley, president of Del Rods Car Club, presented a $500 donation on the club’s behalf to Joe Startt Jr., president of Kent County Chapter 850, Vietnam Veterans of America toward the training of a service dog for a disabled veteran residing in Delaware.

"We are truly grateful for this donation for our CASH (Canines Assisting Service Heroes) program that provides these much-needed service dogs," said Startt. "This is Del Rods' second generous donation."

The chapter works with Riedel K-9 to train and place dogs for current generation veterans.

"To date, we've placed four, and it's a wonderful feeling to see the face of a disabled veteran taking a dog home to keep," said Startt.

The cost is $8,000-$10,000 a year to train a dog and to match it with the man or women it will partner with. The contribution was made Nov. 30 at the Kent County Veterans Memorial Park, Dover.
