Delmar Speedway incident results in serious injuries

Delaware State Police are investigating an accident at Delmar Speedway that seriously injured a Pocomoke, Maryland man.

On Saturday, November 17, at around 3 p.m., troopers responded to the track, at 37735 Raceway Road, for a report of an industrial accident involving a drag car. Their investigation revealed that a 34-year-old man was driving a 1995 Ford Mustang drag car in a timed pass. Around the eighth-mile mark, he lost control and struck a guardrail and then the finish line post before barrel-rolling. The car came to rest on its roof.

The track was closed to the public at the time. The driver was wearing a helmet and restrained. He sustained serious, life-threatening injuries and was flown by the Delaware State Aviation Unit to Christiana Hospital.

Delaware State Police will continue to investigate.
