The 57-year-old home resident was hit twice in the back of the head

Six unknown men broke into a Dover apartment Sunday morning, assaulted a man and stole cash and a gold chain.

Dover Police Department spokesman Master Cpl. Mark Hoffman said the incident took place between 1 and 1:20 a.m. at an apartment in the 400 block of East Water Street, in the Capitol Green subdivison.

The men got in through the front door and ransacked the apartment; two of the men also hit a 57-year-old man in the back of the head. They ran away after getting the cash and chain.

The victim suffered a cut to his head, Hoffman said, and was taken to Bayhealth Hospital’s Kent Campus for treatment.

The suspects only are described as black men, he added.
