The Delaware Office of Highway Safety is urging everyone to make plans for a safe ride home if they intend to consume alcohol during the Labor Day weekend.

In an effort to make sure that drivers are following Delaware's impaired driving laws, law enforcement officers from state, local and county police departments will be coordinating DUI checkpoints in all counties Sept. 1.

Checkpoints will be set up on Route 40 in Newark, New Castle County; Route 10, Dover, Kent County; and Route 54, Selbyville, Sussex County.

Drug recognition experts — law enforcement officers trained in detecting drug impaired drivers — will be on hand at the checkpoints to identify drivers impaired by illegal and prescription drugs as well.
