District 7630 Governor Pete Booker visited Dover Capital City Rotary Club on Aug. 23 at Maple Dale Country Club.
His theme during his year as governor is “Be the Inspiration,” referring to making positive things happen in the local and regional communities and beyond.
District 7360 includes 40 clubs in Delaware and the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
A 24-year member of the Wilmington Rotary Club, he served as president in 2006-07 and an assistant governor in Area 10 from 2008 to 2011. Booker was born in Wilmington and graduated from Thomas McKean High School. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in communications from the University of Delaware.
His 46-year broadcasting career included on-air programming and management positions in Wilmington; Philadelphia; Detroit; and Fredericksburg, Virginia. He retired in 2015 after serving 22 years as president and CEO of Delmarva Broadcasting.
Booker currently serves as executive director of the SmartDrive Foundation Inc., a nonprofit organization he founded in 2004 dedicated to improving the driving skills and risk avoidance of teen drivers. The foundation teaches responsibility, accountability and maturity and offers scholarships and other awards to top-performing students. Booker was accompanied by his wife, Susan, who serves as the board secretary and grant writer of the SmartDrive Foundation.
