Have you seen Rickey C. Garner Jr.?

A Rehoboth Beach man is wanted after fleeing police early Monday morning.

Around 12:45 a.m. on Monday, July 23, a Rehoboth Beach police officer on patrol in the second block of Baltimore Avenue, in the area of the Village By the Sea mall, detected an odor of marijuana coming from a parked car and observed 31-year-old Ashley A. Hertzog, of Rehoboth, leaning in the passenger side window.

The officer contacted Hertzog and indicated to her and the occupants of the car that they were not free to leave, but she and a female passenger of the car fled on foot. The female passenger was observed placing what appeared to be a bag of marijuana in the car before fleeing. The officer also observed marijuana paraphernalia in the car.

As the females fled the scene, the officer remained with the driver, who was later identified as 35-year-old Rickey C. Garner Jr., of Rehoboth Beach. The officer ordered Garner to exit the vehicle, but he took off at an unsafe speed, eastbound on Baltimore Avenue toward First Street, where the officer lost sight of him.

Hertzog inside Arena’s Deli and Bar in the Village By the Sea mall, where she was taken into custody without further incident. She was charged with misdemeanor resisting arrest and jailed on $500 secured bail. The female passenger has not yet been identified.
