Grotto Pizza stopped offering plastic straws to guests, only providing them upon request, in an effort to help minimize the impact on the environment and sea life.

Grotto Pizza is looking into other options, including paper straws, to remove plastic straws from the restaurants.

More than 500 million plastic straws are used everyday in the U.S.

“This is a step we needed to take,” said Grotto Pizza Vice President Jeff Gosnear. “We are one of the largest restaurant groups in the area. This will reduce the amount of plastic straws in our restaurants by over 15 million a year.”
