Delaware State University demolished the Lydia Laws Residential Hall, a 56-year-old, former female dormitory on campus around 9 a.m., Thursday.
The demolition was performed through a unique partnership between a major construction firm and a Delaware minority contracting company with strong DSU ties.
Wohlsen Construction – a major company in the Mid-Atlantic Region – has partnered with Rock Solid Contracting, a minority firm based in Wilmington and owned by DSU grad Norman Oliver.
The joint involvement is emblematic of DSU goals to ensure that minority contractors are a part of the overall project to build a new 200,000-square foot residential hall on the site. Laws Hall is the first of two buildings to be demolished to make room for the new construction.
