Kent County Republican Committee Chairman Hank McCann recently congratulated Rebecca Anderson and Karen Smiga on statewide awards they received at the Republican State Kent County Republican Committee women leaders recognized
Convention held April 28 in Rehoboth.
Anderson was recognized as State Young Republican of the Year. A full-time student at Delaware Technical Community College, she serves as executive assistant to McCann and assists candidates and elected officials, submits press releases, coordinates activities and performs a range of activities. She also assists with events like first responder luncheons, the African-American Festival and other community activities and records minutes of regional and executive meetings.
“In addition to a broad range of responsibilities, Rebecca was recently elected vice chair of the 31st Representative District. Her computer and organizational skills are exceptional,” said McCann.
Smiga was recognized as State Republican of the Year. She and her husband, Fred, moved to Delaware from Connecticut in September 2012, and she quickly became involved in grassroots Republican activism, said McCann.
“She is an outstanding volunteer for Kent County who has also worked tirelessly on campaigns throughout the state and registered a great many people to vote. Fluent in Spanish, Karen translates documents for the Republican Party to further its inclusion efforts,” said McCann.
Smiga has also served as recording secretary of the Kent County Republican Women's Club and is a past secretary of the 33rd Representative District.
