Ashish Khandelwal, medical director at HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Middletown, was named as the 2018 Medical Director of the Year at the company’s annual medical directors meeting held in St. Petersburg, Florida.

The 2018 Medical Director of the Year designation was handpicked from a pool of 127 medical directors across the country by Chief Medical Officer Lisa Charbonneau and regional presidents of Encompass Health, formerly known as HealthSouth. The award recognizes Khandelwal’s clinical knowledge, exemplary performance in the development of quality clinical programs and overall excellence in leadership.

After graduating with his medical degree from Dr. S N Medical College in Jodhpur, India. in 1998, Khandelwal completed an internal medicine residency program at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center. Post residency, he worked in a variety of settings including acute, cardiovascular and orthopedic care. He is committed to patient satisfaction and reaching superior outcomes helping each patient he sees return to independence at their most optimal levels. In addition, he participates in the Delaware stroke committee, which is a statewide initiative designed to improve care for residents who have had a stroke. He has served in the medical director role at HealthSouth Middletown since the hospital opened in December 2014.
