The Appoquinimink Friends Meetinghouse, 616 W. Main St., Odessa, will host its third annual open house from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 9.

This Quaker meetinghouse recreates a freedom seeker hiding place under the eaves of the loft above the 1785 worship space. The clerk of this meeting will describe the role played by local Quakers in hiding runaway slaves and show how they were hidden.

The program is suitable for elementary and middle school students who have an understanding of the Underground Railroad. Key players John Hunn and John Alston's work is commemorated by the bench at the side of the road on the nearby grounds of Middletown High School.

This meetinghouse is an active place of Quaker worship and is on the National Register.
