Dale S. Street was arrested Oct. 3

The chief custodian at the John S. Charlton school has been arrested on sexual solicitation charges.

Delaware State Police spokesman Master Cpl. Gary Fournier said Dale S. Street, 35, of Dover, was taken into custody Tuesday, Oct. 3.

The investigation Sept. 29 after a 17-year-old student at Caesar Rodney High School told a school employee about a man who was sending her text messages that were sexual in nature.

Fournier said the police investigation showed Street had started the texts three days earlier and had met the girl alone once in the parking lot of the John S. Charlton School, where he works as the head custodian.

Records show Street was appointed to the job in May by the district’s board of education; he previously had worked as a custodian at the high school.

District Superintendent Kevin Fitzgerald released a statement shortly after Fournier’s press release.

“On the morning of Friday, Sept. 29, 2017, the Caesar Rodney School District received information concerning the conduct of Dale Street, a custodian employed by the district,” Fitzgerald said in the news release, provided by spokesman David Chambers.

“The Delaware State Police were immediately contacted and Mr. Street was suspended with pay, as per the negotiated custodian’s agreement,” Fitzgerald said.

The superintendent added that the district is cooperating with police in their investigation, but that state law protecting Street’s privacy rights would not allow him to provide additional information.

Street is facing a single count of sexual solicitation of a child under the age of 18 and, after arraignment, was released on a $20,000 unsecured bond.

Fournier said that due to the sensitivity of this case, and in consideration of the victim, only limited information will be released.
