The Food Bank of Delaware kicked off its annual Thanksgiving For All food and funds drive Oct. 2 and is seeking the community’s assistance in collecting food items and monetary donations to create 2,500 Thanksgiving meal boxes for Delaware families in need.

Businesses, schools, faith-based organizations and other community groups are encouraged to organize food drives throughout the holiday season. Food for the Thanksgiving boxes must be received by Nov. 3. Holiday food received after that time will be distributed to the Food Bank’s network of Hunger-Relief Program Partners.

Items needed include canned sweet potatoes, canned peas, canned corn, evaporated milk, canned pumpkin, applesauce, coffee/tea bags, corn muffin mix, canned gravy, mashed potatoes, graham cracker crust, turkey pans and frozen turkeys — must be dropped off to Newark or Milford warehouse.

Those who collect more than 20 boxes/bags of donated food may make arrangements with the Food Bank of Delaware to have donations picked up. In an effort to save money on transportation costs, the Food Bank asks that donations of fewer than 20 bags/boxes be dropped off from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays at the organization’s facilities in Newark,14 Garfield Way, or in Milford, 1040 Mattlind Way.
