There were no injuries reported when a small plane overshot the runway at a Kent County airport.
The incident occurred at about 10:22 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 30 at the Chandelle Estates Airport at 119 Kruser Boulevard, Delaware State Police spokesman Master Cpl. Gary Fournier said in a press release.
The pilot of the 1971 Cessna called 911 to report the mishap; troopers and personnel from DelDOT found the aircraft in the middle of Bayside Road (Route 9) between White Oak Road and Silver Leaf Lane. The plane was carrying one passenger as well as its pilot, Fournier said. The aircraft sustained damage to its propeller and front landing gear.
The area between Silver Leaf Drive and White Oak Road was closed for about 90 minutes while the plane was removed from the roadway. The investigation has been turned over to the Federal Aviation Administration.
