The Walmart Foundation recently awarded a grant in the amount of $25,000 to the Ronald McDonald House of Delaware.
Support from Walmart Foundation will help to offset the costs to house and provide support services to Delaware families with a seriously or chronically ill or injured child who is being treated at a hospital in the Wilmington area.
“We are thankful to the Walmart Foundation for its generous support, which will allow us to continue to provide a safe, comfortable, and affordable ‘home-away-from-home’ for families, regardless of their ability to pay,” said Pam Cornforth, president and CEO of the Ronald McDonald House of Delaware.
Every year, the Ronald McDonald House of Delaware welcomes more than 2,000 families, about 700 of which reside throughout the state of Delaware. Since opening in 1991, the House has welcomed more than 44,000 families and has expanded from a 17-guestroom house to a 50-guestroom house.
While staying at the house, families are provided a private guestroom with an attached bathroom, meals throughout the day, transportation to and from the hospital and access to other support services. There is no cost to stay at the house. A $15 contribution per night is requested from each family, but it is not required and is often reduced or waived.
