UPDATE: The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit has identified the 62-year-old Pikesville, Maryland man who was killed in the fatal crash that occurred on Hickman Road on Friday, April 21, as Brette F. Geller.
The crash remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police.
UPDATE: The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate a single vehicle crash that claimed the life of a Pikesville, Maryland man yesterday afternoon.
The investigation thus far has determined that the crash happened around 3 p.m. on Friday, April 21. The 62-year-old victim was driving a 2016 Cadillac SRX4 eastbound on Hickman Road (Route 16), just west of McDowell Road, near Greenwood. For an unknown reason, the Cadillac left the roadway and entered a field before striking a ditch and overturning end-to-end.
The victim, who was properly restrained at the time, was trapped in his vehicle until he could be extricated by EMS. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The name of the victim is being withheld pending the notification of next of kin.
The crash remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police. Impairment does not appear to have been a factor in the crash.
Hickman Road was closed in both directions for approximately 2.5 hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.
Delaware State Police are investigating a serious motor vehicle crash that occurred this afternoon.
The initial investigation determined that the crash occurred around 3 p.m. on Hickman Road, just north of Route 16 in Greenwood, and involved one vehicle. One person suffered serious injuries.
Hickman Road is currently closed in both directions and commuters are asked to find alternate routes of travel. The investigation into this crash is in its early stages. More information will be released as it becomes available.
