Police say the handgun was in plain sight, even though Thomson is prohibited from carrying a weapon.
Officers with the Dover police Street Crimes Unit have arrested a man on drug and weapons offenses following a late night traffic stop.
The arrest came at 10:04 p.m. Friday, March 24 on South Dupont Highway at Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Dover Police Department spokesman Master Cpl. Mark Hoffman said.
Officers pulled over Brandon Thompson, 24, for an equipment violation and noticed the smell of marijuana as well as a handgun visible in plain sight, Hoffman said. A search conducted after Thompson was taken into custody turned up 13.2 grams of marijuana, 0.035 grams of heroin and 4.2 grams of methylenedioxymethamphetamine, or MDMA.
Thompson was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance (MDMA), possession of heroin, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited and possession of a firearm by a person prohibited.
Thompson later was released on a $2,310 unsecured bond.
