Ronald L. Keis was taken into custody less than 90 minutes after the break-in
Delaware State Police have arrested a Smyrna man following a home invasion in north Dover.
The break-in took place at about 7:45 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28 at a home in the first block of Hickory Dale Drive, off Dyke Branch Road, outside the Dover municipal limits.
Delaware State Police spokesman Master Cpl. Gary Fournier said police were notified via a 911 call from a 69-year-old woman who said a man had broken into her home and demanded money.
The man kicked and punched the woman, despite her handing over more than $2,000.
The woman gave police a description of her assailant and within 90 minutes police located Ronald L. Keis, 50, walking in the area of Scarborough Road and U.S. Route 13.
Keis was taken into custody after troopers found the victim’s money in his pockets.
The victim, whose name was not released, was taken to Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Keis is charged with home invasion, first-degree robbery, second-degree assault and tampering with physical evidence. He has been committed to the Vaughn Correctional Center on a $132,000 cash bond.
