A Dover Police Department K-9 is being credited with bringing down a fleeing burglary suspect last week.

Department spokesman Master Cpl. Mark Hoffman said officers were called to a home in the first block of South Governor’s Avenue at about 7:01 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 1. The suspect, who Hoffman identified as 38-year-old Henry Fordham, ran away as officers tried to contact him.

An arriving officer turned his dog loose, and the K-9 caught Fordham in the 300 block of West Division Street.

Hoffman said Fordham bit an officer’s finger as he was being handcuffed, but added the injury was not severe.

Fordham is charged with second-degree attempted burglary, offensive touching of a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest.
