Delaware Department of Transportation and Delaware Transit Corporation recently announced the release of real-time transit information.

Delaware Department of Transportation Secretary Jennifer Cohan and Delaware Transit Corporation CEO John Sisson recently announced the release of real-time transit information as they demonstrated enhancements to DelDOT’s innovative mobile and web application that allows DART customers to view real-time bus arrival information.

The enhancements allow users to select a DART bus stop, receive real-time bus arrival times and view live updates as a bus icon travels along its designated route. The DelDOT mobile app is free and available to those using a smartphone.

The application was developed by staff members from several DelDOT divisions as a collaborative effort, using data collected by DART’s existing statewide transit dispatch operational system. Real-time information is dependent on various factors, including telecommunications, internal processing, road conditions and other operational elements.

Other technology initiatives that bring improved customer service and service efficiencies to the transit agency also were mentioned, including a subscription service through the Delaware notification service. With winter approaching and the chance of inclement weather causing service disruptions, DART riders can subscribe to receive rider alerts, general transit information and news. Individuals can customize their subscriptions and select how they receive the information, whether by email, text or phone. Customers can sign up for the service through bit.ly/1DctV9z or delaware.gov.
