One killed, two injured.
The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal two-car crash that occurred early this morning on Gordy Road, near Wootten Road, in Laurel.
The incident occurred around 7:50 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 12 as a 35-year-old female from Willards, Maryland was driving a pickup truck westbound and a 64-year-old female from Delmar was driving a Ford Explorer eastbound, both on Gordy Road. The driver of the pickup failed to negotiate a curve in the road and lost control, traveling into the eastbound lane. The pickup collided with the Explorer and both cars ended up in a ditch.
The 35-year old female driving the pickup and her 36-year-old male passenger were transported to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital by EMS, where the female was admitted for non-life-threatening injuries. The male was pronounced dead a short time after arriving at the hospital.
The 64-year-old female operator of the Explorer was also transported to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital by EMS, where she was treated and released with non-life-threatening injuries.
All names are being withheld, pending notification of next of kin.
The Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident. Charges may be forthcoming against the driver of the pickup. Gordy Road, between Old Stage Road and Wootten Road, was closed for approximately three and a half hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
