A pedestrian who was killed in a traffic crash over the weekend has been identified as Brenda L. Stone, 58, of Dover.
The Delaware State Police Reconstruction Unit released Stone’s name early Tuesday morning.
The crash took place at about 11 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, on U.S. Route 40 in Bear, DSP spokesman Sgt. Richard Bratz said in a press release.
Bratz said the initial investigation showed Stone was crossing the highway and was in the center lane when she was struck by a 2009 Toyota Camry, driven by Terry Berry, 33, of Newark.
After the impact, the car continued on, but turned around and returned to the scene.
Stone, who was not using a marked crosswalk, was pronounced dead at the scene, Bratz said.
Berry, who was not injured, is charged with driving under the influence and operating an unregistered motor vehicle. However, the prime cause of the accident was Stone’s failure to use the crosswalk, Bratz said, adding that alcohol use on her part also appeared to be a factor.
