A 21-year-old Delaware State University student was killed early Monday morning in a single-vehicle crash west of Kenton.

The incident took place around 1:36 p.m. May 11, on Sudlersville Road, near the western end of Owls Nest Road, said Delaware State Police spokesman Sgt. Richard Bratz.

The vehicle, a 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe, was traveling eastbound when it failed to take a left hand curve and continued to travel in a straight line. The Tahoe hit a road sign, went through a grassy ditch, and then flew into the air after hitting a culvert. The vehicle stopped when it hit a tree, Bratz said.

The vehicle's passenger, Dymond Dantzler, of Maryland, was pronounced dead at the scene. She had not been wearing a seatbelt, Bratz said.

The driver, Kevin T. Perry, 21, also of Maryland, was taken by emergency medical services personnel to Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Delaware State University spokesman Carlos Holmes confirmed late Monday both Perry and Dantzler were students at the school.

The DSP Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident, Bratz said.
