State police are advising Dover residents of a homeless sex offender living somewhere in the area.

Jerome R. Hawkins, 54, was convicted in 2006 of fourth-degree rape, according to the Delaware Central Sex Offender Registry.

Hawkins is not wanted for any crime. State law requires police to notify area residents when a known sex offender is living in their neighborhood. Law enforcement officials use the media to notify the entire community when a sex offender is listed as homeless.

Hawkins is a black man, standing, 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing 150 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He is considered a Tier II, or medium-risk sex offender.

Anyone with information that Hawkins is occupying a residence in the Dover area is asked to call 672-5306, or use the Delaware State Police Mobile Crime Tip Application available at delaware.gov/apps.

Anonymous information also may be provided to Delaware Crime Stoppers by calling (800) TIP-3333, online at tipsubmit.com, or by sending a text to 274637 (CRIMES) and starting your message with the keyword “DSP.”
