The St. Thomas More field hockey team put a damper on Archmere Academy’s homecoming day, forcing a 1-1 tie with Auks on Saturday afternoon.
Archmere would strike first on Saturday when Kennedy Murphy found Presley Conaty for the opening goal to give the Auks a 1-0 lead early. Though, just minutes later St. Thomas More’s sophomore Therese Sadusky would find the back of the net thanks to a nice feed from fellow sophomore Elizabeth McMahon to tie things up at 1-1.
Both teams were shutout in the second half leading and overtime period where again, neither team was able to score and the contest ended in a 1-1 tie.
The low scoring affair certainly wasn’t due to lack of chances as both teams surpassed double-digit shot attempts on Saturday, led by Archmere 11-10. St. Thomas More led the way in penalty corner opportunities 7-6 but weren’t able to cash in late.
Junior goaltender Sarah Hayes made nine saves for the Lady Ravens in the tie, while Archmere’s Kathleen Demspey made 10 saves for the Auks Saturday.
Now at 4-4-1 on the season, St. Thomas More looks took on St. Andrew’s (2-7) on Tuesday after our press time and are back in action Thursday when they head north to take on St. Elizabeth (2-4-1) at Hockessin Montessori School starting at 4:00 p.m.
