A pair of brothers is accused of stealing building materials from the new Delaware State Police barracks currently under construction in Dover.

Bruce A. Logan, 32, of Dover, and Carlton R. Logan, 34, of Frederica, were arrested at a home in Frederica on Oct. 10, according to Delaware State Police spokesman Master Cpl. Gary Fournier.

The theft from the Troop 3 construction site on South State State was first reported by A-Del Construction and Guardian Environmental Services about 8:15 a.m. on Thursday, he said.

Investigators determined several pieces of cast iron piping, large amounts of rebar and galvanized steel plates, collectively valued at more than $5,000, were taken overnight.

About 11:45 a.m., employees at Dover Scrap Yard in Hartly contacted the investigators to report two men had attempted to scrap a large piece of cast iron piping, Fournier said.

The transaction was denied but the scrap yard did obtain information from the men that was later used to track the brother back to Frederica, he said.

Much of the stolen material was recovered and returned to the construction site, Fournier said.

Each of the Logan brothers is charged with two counts of theft of property valued at more than $1,500, second-degree conspiracy, theft by false pretense, selling stolen property and third-degree criminal trespass.

Each is being held at the James T. Vaughn Correctional Institution in Smyrna on a $2,001 secured bond each.
