Hobart Egerson, 89, died Sunday, March 6, 2011, at home with his loving family.

Born Oct. 2, 1921, in Queen Anne, Md., Mr. Egerson was the son of the late Harry and Georgia Fountain Egerson.

He attended public schools in Maryland.

Before enlisting in the Army, where he was a corporal, Mr. Egerson was a member of the CCC. He then met and married his soul mate, Lillian G. Brown. From this union came their only child, Stanley C. Egerson. After his duty in the Army, he became employed by Malleable Iron in New Castle. He later retired from Barry Bronz, where he was a foreman and metallurgist.

He was an active member of Ezion Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church until his illness, where he was a member of the United Methodist Men.

Mr. Egerson is survived by his wife of 68 years, Lillian G. Egerson; a son, Stanley C. Egerson and his wife Donna; and seven grandchildren, Stanley M. Egerson and his wife Lynn, Jacqueline K. Egerson, Troy H. Egerson and his wife Donna, Teresa A. Dennis and her husband Larry, Venus L. Nelson and her husband Edward, from a former marriage to Maryetta J. Egerson, Jottama and Vielka Murrell McCormick, and Jared McCormick.

He also is survived by 18 great-grandchildren, Marc Egerson, Taja, Tiara, Jaclyn and Martel McCain, Trae Lustre, Malcolm and Lalah Egerson, Mikel and Brittany Egerson, and Khyle, Ja’Lin, Maya and Edward (Jr.) Nelson, Jirell and Antwain McCormick, and Chantay and Xiomara McCormick; five great-great-grandchildren, Ryan Chase Christopher, Jay’Son Alexander Demby, Yasmin Milan Griffin, Christian Thomas Lustre and Kaidence Hobart Marckell Smith.
