The Dover Days Committee invites all Delawareans to register now as exhibitors, car show competitors, parade and pet parade entries and new this year, the Dover Days Cornhole Tournament. The event, Dover’s largest, is taking May 6 to 8 Dover Days Festival and is in its 78th year.
Exhibitors/Vendors — The Festival Committee is seeking crafts and food vendors, home and trade show exhibitors, colonial artisans, non-profit organizations and others for the Saturday, May 7, exhibitor/vendor day. Crafts vendors receive a $25 discount if applications are received by March 31.
Dover Days Car Show — The Dover Days Car Show, sponsored by Townsend Bros. Chevrolet and set for Friday evening, May 6, is offering a $5 discount on vehicles registered in advance of the show. This year’s event, which is a participant-judged show, features 25 trophies and 150 commemorative dash plaques to the first 150 registered. Live oldies music will be performed that evening by The Honeycombs, and car show participants will be invited to attend a free candlelight tour of the 2nd Delaware Regiment Volunteers Civil War encampment.
Dover Days Cornhole Tournament — The first during a Dover Days Festival, set for Friday, May 6, will begin at 6 p.m. Teams of two will receive a $10 discount on their registration if completed prior to May 6. Cornhole, growing in popularity, is similar to an adult bean bag game. Participants must be at least 18 years of age. Up to $400 in cash awards will be presented that evening.
Dover Days Parade — Dover’s largest parade will step off at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 7. All entries must be pre-registered no later than April 20. Commercial entry fees apply; however, all community organizations are invited to participate, free of charge.
Dover Days Pet Parade — This year’s pet parade judging will begin at 8:45 a.m. in the parking lot of the city of Dover’s Wyandt Building, at the corner of Reed Street and Kings Highway. The parade will feature cash prizes for the top five winners ranging from $10 to $50. Categories include Best in Show, Best Dover Days Theme, Best Group, Best Costume and Cutest Pet.
Community Group Participation — Performing arts groups are encouraged to contact the festival committee about performing opportunities. Civic organizations are encouraged to participate by providing volunteer services during the festival weekend.
