Friends and relatives of Joseph Wilbur “Joe Boy” Strong Jr., 65, recently of Camden-Wyoming, may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, at Fellow, Helfenbein & Newman Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road, Chestertown, Md. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Chestertown, Md. Interment will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery following the service.

Mr. Strong died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011, at Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital.

Born April 10, 1945, in Chestertown, Md., he was the son of the late Joseph W. Strong Sr. and Florence Walls Strong.

Mr. Strong graduated from Chestertown High School in 1963 and Chesapeake College later in his life in 1987. He served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Preston during the Vietnam War as a sonar technician and was honorably discharged in 1969.

He operated the drive-in movie theatre in Church Hill, Md. He worked with his parents operating the Old Wharf Inn Restaurant with his sister, Diana. He also owned and operated the Chestertown Seafood business on Cannon Street in Chestertown, Md.

Mr. Strong was a radiologist for 30 years, and in 1989 moved to Delaware to work at Kent General Hospital in that profession. He also worked at MDI as a radiologist and a CAT-scan technician.

He was a member of the Kent and Queen Anne’s Rescue Squad, and of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.

Mr. Strong is survived by his three children, Julie Kennedy and her husband Jeff of Dover, Richard Strong and his wife Deborah of Chestertown, Md., and Susan Emeigh and her husband Gary of Hartly; a sister, Diana Williams of Chestertown, Md.; six grandchildren, Matthew, Brandon, Austin, Seth, Madison and Dylan; and two nieces, Jesse-Lee Nichols of Lynchburg, Va., and Natalie Williams of Chestertown, Md.
