Vote for talented kids competing for top singing title
A group of the area’s most talented young vocalists are vying for the top prize at Smyrna’s Got Voice — Kids Rock! at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, at the Smyrna Opera House, corner of South and Main streets. The “American Idol”-like competition features local and regional singers between 10 and 17 years old. After each one’s performance, a panel of judges will give constructive criticism and audience members will vote for their favorite performers to move on to the final performance March 26.

Catch a free showing of Denzel Washington film
For those who still haven’t seen the 2008 hit “The Great Debaters,” now’s your chance. The Golden Globe-nominated Denzel Washington film will be shown free at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, at the Schwartz Center for the Arts, 226 S. State St., Dover. The movie is part of Wesley College’s Global Initiatives program.
The drama is based on the true story of Melvin B. Tolson, a Texas professor who in 1935 inspired students to form the school’s first debate team, which went on to challenge Harvard in the national championship.
