Brothers DeWayne, Matt and Shawn Pickle opened P&P Performance on June 14 at 1424 Frederica Road, Frederica.
For years, brothers Shawn, Matt and DeWayne Pickle have wanted to open their own automotive repair shop.
That dream came true for the three when they opened P&P Performance June 14 at 1424 Frederica Road, Frederica.
The brothers sat down with the Dover Post on July 23 to talk about what P&P offers and how it differs from similar businesses.
Q What made you guys decide to open a shop and how has business been so far?
A Shawn: It’s something we’ve all three wanted to do for quite some time and we finally said, “Let’s just do it.” We’re growing every day and getting more business every day. Word of mouth is really starting to spread.
Q What are some of the services offered here?
A Shawn: We offer auto detailing, anything from just a car wash to a full-blown waxing, interior detailing and engine bay cleaning. Then we offer a wide variety of mechanical work … brake jobs, oil changes, tune-ups, shock/strut replacement and things like that. We also have a computer analyzer to check engine lights, ABS systems and airbag systems.
Q How do your prices compare to your competition?
A Shawn: We find that all of our customers are saying we’re very competitive. Our rates are usually much lower than your big time dealerships. We beat them by $30 to $40 per hour on just the mechanic part.
Q How do you explain to customers what it is you’re doing to their car and build that level of trust?
A Matt: We won’t put anything in your car that we wouldn’t put in our own cars. That’s our motto.
DeWayne: We’re up front and if they want to see the parts, we’ll take them out and show them so they can see what we’re replacing and why we’re replacing it. And we try to keep things in terms that people can understand. We try to keep it very simple.
Shawn: I’ll show you right on our shelf exactly what you’re getting. And that also goes with repairs. I wouldn’t tell you something is wrong with your car if it wasn’t true. We’re not in the business of robbing people.
Q Are you able to accommodate customers that might not be able to get their car in during normal business hours?
A DeWayne: We do appointments. For instance, if someone is working until 5 p.m. and can’t get here until after that time and need something done right away, we’ll stay around until 6 or 7 p.m. at night to help them.
