Robert Harvey Tate, 72, of Dover, died Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009.

Friends of the late Robert Harvey Tate, 72, of Dover, may call on the family from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 24, at the Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at noon at the Church of the Holy Cross, 631 S. State St., Dover.

Mr. Tate died Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009, at Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover.

Born March 3, 1937, in Clarksburg, W.Va., he was the son of the late Harvey Michael Tate and Glenola Cottrill Tate.

Mr. Tate was a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force, retiring in 1976 at the rank of staff sergeant.

Following his retirement, he worked as a finance manager for the Lockheed Corporation, spending two years in Iran and two years in Greece. He also worked for 10 years at the Honeywell Corporation in New Jersey and for five years at the Advanced Electronics Company in Saudi Arabia.

Mr. Tate was a member of the American Legion Walter L. Fox Post No. 2, Dover; the Sampson Air Force Base Veterans Association; and the Civil War Round Table.

He enjoyed reading, military history, and country music.

Mr. Tate is survived by his wife of 25 years, Haidi Tate of Dover; two sons, Robert C. Tate and Brendan Robert Styles, both of Dover; a sister and brother-in-law, Roxann and Jerry Groebner of St. Paul, Minn.; his father-in-law, Contantine Tsipas of Athens Greece; his brother-in-law, Chris Tsipas of Athens; and many cousins in West Virginia.

Interment will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 24, in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mr. Tate’s name may be made to the American Legion Walter L. Fox Post No. 2, 835 Bay Road, Dover, DE 19901-4632.
