Mary E. Harris, 86, of Houston, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009.

    Mary E. Harris, 86, of Houston, died peacefully Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009, at home.

    Born July 9, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Ola Cirwithian of Milford Neck.

    Mrs. Harris was retired from Libby, McNeil and Libby canning plant in 1967, after many years of service. She worked many jobs there, but one of her favorites was operating the labeling machine.

    She was well known for her vegetable and flowers gardens and her shrubs and trees, some of which were rare.

    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson Harris; her sister, Hazel Burriss; and her brothers, Finley and Grant Cirwithian.

    Mrs. Harris is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Saffold of Houston; many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends; a dear friend, Barbara Barner; and a longtime friend who was like a sister, Grace McKensie of Florida.

    Interment was in the Williamsville Cemetery, Williamsville.

    Funeral arrangements were by the Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Milford.
