Elwood R. Brown, 74, of Harrington, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2009.

  Elwood R. Brown, 74, of Harrington, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2009, at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore.

    Born March 3, 1934, he was the son of the late Odoth and Ella Brown.

    Mr. Brown was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, but spent most of his time in Hawaii, where he played baseball.

    He was a public accountant who ran his own business, Brown’s Accounting of Harrington, for more than 30 years.

    Mr. Brown enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren, as well as turkey and rabbit hunting. He was an avid golfer and one-time member of Jonathan’s Landing Golf Club.

    He was a member of Calvary Wesleyan Church, Harrington. He loved God and he was always studying the Bible. Mr. Brown loved helping others and enjoyed visiting nursing homes and hospitals where he could pray for people. He never complained and immensely enjoyed his 6:30 a.m. morning coffee club. Mr. Brown also loved to reminisce and tell stories.

    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Norman Brown and Alvin Brown; and two sisters, Grace Wainwright and Anna Lee Hitchens.

    Mr. Brown is survived by his wife of 40 years, Betty Brown of Harrington; two sons, Kyle Brown of Milford and Jason Brown of Viola; five grandchildren; three brothers, Marvin Brown of Felton, Harold Brown of Dover and Wayne Brown of Dover; and a sister, Joann Bowdle, of Worton, Md.

    Interment was in the Hollywood Cemetery, east of Harrington.

    Funeral arrangements were by the Melvin Funeral Home, Harrington.
