Paul Gordon Sterling, 94, of Dover, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009.

    Paul Gordon Sterling, 94, of Dover, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover.

    Born Aug. 28, 1914, in Westbrook, Maine, son of the late Malcom Sterling and Wilma Alcorn Sterling. He was raised in Peaks Island, Maine.

    Mr. Sterling graduated from Portland High School and worked for New York mechanical contractor Roland Tompkins for 47 years. His work was piping in paper mills, and he worked in powerhouses from Maine to the Bahamas. He retired in 1978 and settled in Onancock, Va., on the bay, where he enjoyed boating, fishing, and crabbing for almost 20 years.

    He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Rita R. Sterling; his children, Richard P. Sterling of Greenwood, S.C., William H. Sterling of Palm Springs, Calif., Kenneth A. Sterling of Franklin, Va., and Caroline Ennis of Lake Carmel, N.Y.; and his brother, Emery H. Sterling of Savannah, Ga.

    He also is survived by his grandchildren, Paula Hermans of Webster, Texas, Greg Sterling of Littleton, Colo., Kenneth A. Sterling Jr. of Oxford, Miss., Melissa Minnaugh of Shenerock, N.Y., and Patricia Walker of Monhegan Lake, N.Y.

    In addition, Mr.?Sterling is survived by and his great-grandchildren, Abrey Sermons and Teddie Sermons, both of Webster, Serains Sterling, and Sammy Sterling of Littleton, Wyatt Sterling and Benjamin Sterling, both of Oxford, and Derek Walker of Shenerock.

    Funeral arrangements were by the Pippin Funeral Home, Wyoming.
