Hunting Coyotes "Illegal" in Delaware

I have to apologize for the blogosphere lagging behind so badly. As being an old man from the Baby Boomer era, it took some remedial education on using the basics of today's computers to get me back on line and up and running. Thanks to Carlene Cox of Gatehouse Media, she was patient enough to 'splain all this so I could understand.  I'll try to insure the blog stays fresh and current from now on.

Most of you who read my column know how adamantly opposed I am to any protections of our new invasive species: the coyote. Still. for some reason within the Division of Fish and Wildlife, there exists this mentality that the "brushwolf of Mexico" deserves some honored state.  Every other state in the union and major parts of Canada not only allow the hunting of coyotes, most encourage it.

Disregarding the concept that a practice is not "unlawful" unless there are specific laws against doing something, F&W has implied that to shoot a coyote is "unethical". There are absolutely no provision in Title VII of the Delaware Code (the bible of hunting and trapping laws) prohibiting the taking of coyote nor of establishing a season for them, yet they seem to have earned protection akin to the Endangered Species Act.

This ideology is now earning them national attention as the Quality Deer Management Association  is publishing this information. It's made it to the internet through the Outdoor Hub.com website (Click here to read more)
