After a rough three quarters at Appoquinimink High School Thursday night, the Caesar Rodney boys basketball team made things interesting but were on the short end of a 76-67 decision, which will prove to be just another learning experience for the Riders, according to head coach Donell Thomas.
"We're a really inexperienced team, but we're going to continue to work on that," Thomas said, noting that he was pleased with the 34-point outburst in the final period that forced Appoquinimink to re-insert their starters after building a 30-point lead.
"The fourth quarter was how us playing how we're capable of playing," Thomas said.
A major part of that fourh quarter was senior guard Savon Farlow, who scored 17 of his team high 29 points in the final frame, driving to the basket to score lay-ups and draw fouls against the transitioning Jaguar defense.
"I'm a leader and I'm going to fight to the end," Farlow said. "Coach usually tells us to 'fix it' and that's what we tried to do. We fought until the end but was too little, too late."
Thomas says that the team can build on this performance by continuing to come together.
"We're all about getting these guys to play together as a family," he said. "Once we do that, I know we can accomplish great things as a team."
