1966 Mustang won at Polytech golf tourney
The 11th Annual Polytech Foundation Golf Tournament was held June 18 at Jonathans Landing Golf Course, Magnolia.
The tournament featured 123 golfers, a new record, and raised more than $7,500 for the technical foundation that helps support the activities that Polytech students are involved in during the year.
The winners were: Scott Kenney, Mike Parkowski, Patrick Durning and Scottie Auen, 57, low gross; Gary Brown, Pat Grant, Ronny Allen and Chris Bird, 55, low net; Dan Rittersbachor, Eric Wink, Brad Dodd and Doug Zweigle, 103, high gross; Dave Bloodsworth and Lynn Richardson, longest drive; Mike Fleetwood, closest-to-the-pin, 6 feet, 9 inches; and Brian Coulter, farthest-from-the-pin, 41 feet, 2 inches.
Paul Dotson was the day’s big winner when he stuck a 125-yard shot 2 feet, 2 inches from the pin that won him a 1966 Ford Mustang that was completely restored by the Polytech Auto Body and Automotive Technical Shop students.
City of Dover to host youth soccer camp at Schutte Park
The city of Dover Parks and Recreation Department will host a youth soccer camp for boys and girls, ages 6 to 12, from 9 a.m. to noon Monday, July 6, to Friday, July 10, at Schutte Park, Dover.
Campers will work on soccer skills such as running, kicking, shooting, dribbling and passing. The goal of the camp is to foster learning in a fun atmosphere where children receive positive feedback for their accomplishments and recognition for their participation.
The cost is $40 per child, and shin guards are required.

Local student-athletes named to Wesley all-academic team
Wesley College announced that 48 of its student-athletes were named to the Colonial Athletic Conference All-Academic Team.
To make the team, student-athletes must attain a 3.20 GPA during the academic year.
Of the 48 named from Wesley, five were local students, including Dover High grad Tyler Burns, junior, baseball, of Dover; Polytech High grad Adam McGuire, freshman, baseball, of Dover; Lake Forest High grad Amanda Fisher, junior, field hockey, of Felton; Dover High grad Dana Keller, freshman, field hockey, of Dover; and Caesar Rodney High grad Brad Bivins, junior, lacrosse, of Dover.
Mondi wins weekly match for MMC Garrison’s group
The Modern Maturity Center Garrison’s Lake golf group played in an even holes tournament June 29 at Garrison’s Lake Golf Course, Smyrna.
The winners were: Dominic Mondi, 21, first; Dorothy Shahan, 22, Barbara Guliana, 22, and Ron Guliania, 22, tied for second; and Irene Simpson, 23, Walt Bernadzikowksi, 23, and Dick Bennett, 23, tied for third.
The MMC golfers also played June 22 at the Dover Par Three, with Bob Shiuh shooting a 27 and coming in first. Bill Reese, Dorothy Shahan and Jimmie Robinson, who all shot 30, followed him.
Martin, Matthews tie in Wild Quail 9-holers
The Wild Quail 9-Hole Ladies group played a Five Mystery Holes match June 23 at Wild Quail Golf and Country Club, Wyoming.
The winners in Flight A were: Janine Martin, first; Jonna Jarmon, second; and Ann Gorham, third.
The winners in Flight B were: Donna Matthews, first; Becky Sharp, second; and Sue Hufschmidt and Jan Zelenke, tied for third.
Heinig earns honors in 18-hole match at Wild Quail
The Wild Quail 18-Hole Ladies group played a Pro Picks Mystery Holes match June 23 at Wild Quail Golf and Country Club, Wyoming.
The winners in Flight A were: Jane Heinig, first; Lou Ann Carlson, second; and Anne Lanovara, third.
The winners in Flight B were: Joan Shuba, first; Mary Barefoot, second; and Kathy Gazze, third.
Heinig also won the closest-to-the-pin competition on hole No. 17, sticking her shot at 5 feet, 5 inches.
Halls tie for first in low putts game at Garrison’s Lake
The Garrison’s Lake Ladies played in a low putts match June 25 at Garrison’s Lake Golf Course, Smyrna.
The winners were: Shirley and Betty Hall, tied for first; Nancy Cassell, second; and Elaine Raab, third.
Maple Dale hosts scramble mixer match
The Maple Dale 18-Hole and 9-Hole ladies played in a scramble-format mixer June 17 at Maple Dale Country Club, Dover.
The winners were: Judy Taylor, Ray Gehrt, Joan Heckman and Jean Wagner, first; and Gail Nemcic, Pat Carlson, Loretta Harpster and Connie Mutterspaw, second.
The 9-Hole group played in an Odd Numbered Holes match June 25, with Harpster winning and Gehrt placing second.
Muterspaw grabs top finishes in Maple Dale tournaments
The Maple Dale 18-hole Ladies participated in a member/member tournament June 16 at Maple Dale Country Club, Dover.
The winners were: Connie Muterspaw and Deb Scheller, tied for first low net; Jean Wagner and Joan Heckman, tied for second low net; Katia Foret and Columbia Porter, tied for first gross; and Judy Taylor and Claudia Young, tied for second gross.
The group then played in a One Best Ball of Four tournament June 26, and the winners were: Muterspaw, Heckman, Wagner and Scheller, first; and Diana Berry, Marilyn Mays, Gail Nemcic and Jose Jones, second.
Weekly Jonathan’s Landing match goes to Fox
The Jonathan’s Landing Ladies played in an even holes match June 24 at Jonathan’s Landing Golf Course, Magnolia.
