The Del Tech Terry Campus men’s soccer team defeated Atlantic Cape Community College Saturday 3-2 in the first minute of overtime.

Utah Valley State slides past DSU soccer

Senior forward Jenni Clough led the charge offensively for the Utah Valley State Wolverines with three points (one goal, two assists), in a 3-0 victory against the Delaware State Hornets, Oct. 12. With the loss the Hornets fall to 0-2 in the United Soccer Conference (2-9-1 overall).

The Hornets hung tough defensively in the first half led by goalkeeper Courtney Haas’ two big saves that kept the score tied at 0-0 going into the final 45 minutes.

With no substitutions, the Hornets were forced to play their starters the entire game, allowing Utah Valley Stat to use their fresh legs to try and get something going. They did, and it came off the foot of Clough in the 54th minute. She was at the right place at the right time as the ball found her about 10 feet in front of the net. She put it in for her fifth goal of the season.

Defender Sarah Walker was given a gift in the 77th minute as a penalty shot was called allowing her to score the second goal of the game for the Wolverines.

Forward Jamie Lyons capped off the scoring for UVS as she was dealt a center from midfielder Taryn Smith and put it to the left of the sprawling Haas for the goal and the 3-0 victory.

Haas would finish with five saves in the contest, raising her season total to 101 for the season, good for fifth all-time at DSU.

The Hornets will look to get back into action when they take on NJIT in Newark, N.J., at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17.
