Polytech golf tournament planned at Jonathan’s Landing
The Polytech Vocational Technical Educational Foundation of Delaware is sponsoring the 11th Annual Polytech Open Recession Buster Golf Tournament at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, June 18, at Jonathan’s Landing Golf Course, Magnolia.
The day opens with registration and range time, followed by a shotgun start at 10 a.m., then dinner and awards at 2:45 p.m.
The Ford Mustang and Putting challenges will be at 3 p.m. In the Ford Challenge, contestants will take a 125-yard shot to the pin, with closest to the pin winning a reconditioned and certified 1966 Ford Mustang. The cost is $30 per attempt.
The cost to play is $65 per person, and proceeds will provide materials and equipment for student-driven integrated learning experiences.

Par for Pets golf outing to benefit Debbie’s Fund
The third annual Par for Pets charity golf outing will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Friday, June 12, at Jonathan’s Landing Golf Course, Magnolia.
Four-player teams can enter the best-ball tournament for $300, which includes a catered lunch and on-course refreshment.
Proceeds benefit area animal welfare groups.

Del Tech hosts summer lax program
Delaware Tech Terry Campus will host its Hawks Lacrosse Academy for high school players from 6 to 8 p.m. June 16, 17 and 18.
The three-day camp specializes in position improvement for goalies, defenders, attack and midfielders.
The cost is $65 before Friday, June 12, and $75 for on-site registration. Full lacrosse gear is required.

DSEA to sponsor golf tourney
The Delaware State Education Association’s Future Teacher Golf Tournament will begin at 10 a.m., shotgun start at 11:50 a.m., at Jonathan’s Landing Golf Course, 1309 Ponderosa Drive, Magnolia.
The cost is $85, which includes golf, bag lunch, dinner, and an auction and golfer goodie bag.
Prizes include first-, second- and third-place team winners, closest to the pin and longest drive.

Parks and Recreation hosts fitness camps for children
The city of Dover Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a hip hop camp for ages 4 to 13 from 9 to 11:30 am. Monday, June 15, to Friday, June 19, at the Pitts Center.
Participants will learn how to listen to the beats in music and put different steps to those beats.
The camp will involve a lot of group activities in which participants will create their own hip hop routines and showcase them at the end of the week, along with a hip hop dance choreographed by the instructors.
The combinations of fitness, dance and cheer techniques will promote vigor and skill, flexibility, overall physical fitness and self-esteem.
Participants should wear comfortable clothing and sneakers for the class led by instructors from Healthy Bodies for Today.
The activity fee is $50.

The Maple Dale 9-Hole Ladies participated in a Low Putts match June 1, at Maple Dale Country Club, Dover.
The winners were: Jeanie DeLeo, first; and Ray Gehrt and Jean Hitchens, tied for second.
QuickStart Tennis program sessions to be held in Smyrna
The United States Tennis Association is offering its QuickStart Tennis programs in several sessions throughout the summer at North Elementary School, Smyrna.
The programs, for ages 8 and younger, and 10 and younger, will run in 90-minute sessions from June 15 to 19, June 22 to 26, July 6 to 10, and July 13 to 17.
Session I is from 8:30 to 10 a.m., followed by Session II from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
QuickStart uses smaller courts that measure 30-feet or 60-feet, depending on the age level, as well as low-compression or foam balls and junior rackets.
The scaled-down courts and equipment allow young players to learn the sport without the intimidation of a large court, high net or heavy rackets.
Kelley Cole, Maple Dale Country Club’s director of tennis, will run the program, which costs $60 per child, per week.

Wild Quail 9-holers play S and T match for weekly event
The Wild Quail 9-Holers participated in an S and T tournament June 2, at Wild Quail Golf and Country Club, Wyoming.
The winners in Flight A were: Ann Gorham, first; Jonna Jarmon and Pat Sweeney, tied for second; and Doris Wilt, third.
The winners in Flight B were: Joan Peel and Alice Tracey, tied for first; Mary Hauck, second; and Cheryl Walls and Jan Zelenke, tied for third.
Youth volleyball camp to be held at Caesar Rodney High
A volleyball camp for girls entering sixth, seventh or eighth grades will be from noon to 6:30 p.m. Monday, June 22, to Friday, June 26, at Caesar Rodney High School, 239 Old North Road, Camden.
The camp includes instruction, games, skills, teamwork, a T-shirt and more.
The cost is $100 per student, and all participants must be registered by Wednesday, June 17.
