TENNIS
Camps for summer divided into two age groups
The Kent County Levy Court Parks and Recreation Department is offering two Junior Tennis camps from Monday, Aug. 2, to Friday, Aug. 6, at Caesar Rodney High School, Camden.
The camp for ages 7 to 9 will be from 8 to 10 a.m., while the camp for ages 10 to 12 will be from 10 a.m. to noon.
The activity fee is $60 and includes camp T-shirts.

Lunch time yoga, pilates begins Aug. 3
The city of Dover Parks and Recreation Department is offering Lunch Time Yoga & Pilates from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, Aug. 3 to Aug. 26, in the City Hall Conference Room, Dover.
The class will help tighten the core, arms and legs, while helping participants de-stress.
The activity fee is $25, and participants are asked to bring a mat and water.

Parks and recreation class combines yoga, pilates
The city of Dover Parks and Recreation Department is offering Yogalates from 5 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, Aug. 3 to Aug. 26, at the Dover Park Recreation Center.
The yoga will help de-stress and balance the mind while stretching muscles to help tone the body, and the pilates will quickly tighten core muscles.
The activity fee is $25.

Three locals place in DSO triathlon
The Delaware Senior Olympics hosted its 2010 Triathlon July 17 at Lake Como, Smyrna.
Locals who placed were James Hutchison, 50 to 54, 1:11:56, second place overall; Brian Walsh, 55 to 59, 1:26:10, first place overall; and William Moyer, 65 to 69, 1:18:49, first overall.

VOLLEYBALL
Del Tech to host girls high school tournament
Delaware Technical & Community College’s Terry Campus is hosting a volleyball tournament Saturday, Aug. 7, and Sunday, Aug. 8, at the Del Tech outdoor volleyball courts, 100 Campus Drive, Dover.
Pool play begins Aug. 7 and runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., while the playoffs will kick off at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
Teams must consist of four players that must be girls in grades 9 to 12. The cost of registration is $40 per team and must be submitted by Wednesday, Aug. 4.

Blue Hens select team to host tryouts
The Delaware Blue Hen Select team is hosting tryouts in three different sessions in six age groups in the coming weeks.
The first tryout will take place for 10-, 11- and 12-year-olds at 3 p.m. and 13-, 14- and 15/16-year olds at 4 p.m. Saturday, July 31, at Caesar Rodney High School, Camden.
The second will take place for 10-, 11- and 12-year-olds at 5 p.m. and 13-, 14- and 15/16-year olds at 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 1, with a rain date of Monday, Aug. 2, at Sports at the Beach.
The final tryout will take place for 10-, 11- and 12-year-olds at 5 p.m. and 13-, 14- and 15/16-year-olds at 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 8, with a rain date of Monday, Aug. 9, at Sports at the Beach.
Players are trying out for the 2010-2011 season, which runs from Sept. 1, 2010, to Aug. 31, 2011. The age of a player is determined by an April 30 cutoff.

City of Dover camp kicks off Aug. 2
The city of Dover Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a basketball camp for ages 6 to 12 from 9 a.m. to noon Monday, Aug. 2, to Friday, Aug. 6, at the Pitts Center, Dover.
The camp will stress the fundamentals and basics of basketball. Participants will be involved in fun drills and skill-enhancement activities that will help the inexperienced and reinforce the skills of the experienced player.
The activity fee is $40.

Jonathan’s ladies host two games
The Jonathan’s Landing Ladies hosted an odd holes game on July 7 and a Low Gross game July 14 at Jonathan’s Landing Golf Course, Magnolia.
The winners of the Odd Holes game were Chris Fox, A Flight; Pam Sheldon, B Flight; and Terry Dupuis, C Flight.

Hutton wins even holes tourney at Maple Dale
The Maple Dale 9-Holers played an Even Holes tournament July 22 at Maple Dale Country Club, Dover.
The winners were Marie Hutton, first; Barbara Reed, second; and Sue Hufschmidt, third.

Member-guest tourney held at Jonathan’s
The Jonathan’s Landing Ladies hosted their annual member-guest tournament with a better ball of partners format July 22 at Jonathan’s Landing Golf Course, Magnolia.
The gross winners were Crickett Morris and Lynn Richardson, 22, first; Chris Fox and Janet Hovis, 75, second; and Towar Whitehead and Sue Dubre, 78, third.
The net winners were Linda Jarrell and Fran Estabrook, 56, first; Nancy Marsh and Pat Sterling, 59, second; and Ceil Jones and Loretta Grimes, 60, third.
Closest-to-the-line winners were Pam Sheldon, member; and Wanda Tiedemann, guest.
Crickett Morris, member, and Robin Case, guest, were the longest drive winners.
Nancy Marsh, member, and Sandra Jefferson, guest, were the closest-to-the-pin winners.

Shiuh birdies four times to win senior game
The Par 3 Senior Golf League played its weekly game July 20 at the Dover Par 3.
The men’s winners were Bob Shiuh, 23, four birdies, first; Paul Lombardi, 26, one birdie, second; Bob Henry, 28, one birdie, third; Bill Bell, 30, one birdie, fourth; Epi Aboyme, 31, one birdie, fifth; Bill Thomas, 31, one birdie, sixth; and Len Casto, 35, one birdie, seventh.
Francine Dabson was the only female participant, shooting a 40 on the day.

Young, Porter and Still win mixer tourney
The Maple Dale 18-Hole Ladies Golf Association hosted a mixer with the Maple Dale 9-Hole Ladies July 20 at Maple Dale Country Club, Dover.
The winners were Claudia Young, Columbia Porter and Kathy Still, first; Deb Scheller, Jean Wagner and Jean Hitchens, second; and Dee Fortner, Pat Carlson and Gail Nemcic, third.
