The Central Delaware Soccer Association Power U17 girls soccer team has advanced to the U.S. Youth Soccer Region I Championships after recently winning the U.S. Youth Soccer Delaware State Championship. The team is without its starting keeper, but with strong defense, the players and coaches think the Power can prevail.

The Fox Post 2 team in the American Legion Baseball League played three games this past week, losing two and leaving the third uncompleted due to poor weather conditions. With the losses, the team now stands at 3-2 on the season.

Former Wesley College football player Larry Beavers was recently signed by the Carolina Panthers of the NFL. Though he is competing for a wide receiver position on the team, Beavers' tremendous speed may earn him a spot in a special teams role returning kicks and punts.

The 54th Annual Delaware Foundation Reaching Citizens with Intellectual Disabilities Blue-Gold All-Star Football game will be at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 20, at University of Delaware Stadium, Newark.

Hundreds of participants turned out for the 22nd Annual Dover Mile June 11, which was a straight shot down State Street to The Green. The event, sponsored by the Colonial Rotary of Dover, benefited community organizations, as it does every year. For more photos, click on the headline above.

The 22nd Annual Dover Mile, sponsored by the Colonial Rotary of Dover, will kick off with registration at 5:15 p.m. Thursday, June 11, at The Green on State Street. The event will benefit various organizations in the community.

Caesar Rodney High School junior Erik Hoffstadt was selected to play for Mid-Atlantic Region team for the 2009 Adidas National Lacrosse Classic. The tournament brings together 20 regional teams made up of the top 500 high school underclassmen lax players in the country to compete for the 2009 USA Championship.

The American Legion Baseball League kicked off its 2009 season this past week, and local team Fox Post 2 got off on the right foot with three wins in as many games. With a strong pitching staff and heavy run production early, manager Zach Carter has high hopes for the squad.

Zach Carter, a key figure in the Dover baseball world, was inducted into the Delaware Baseball Hall of Fame June 9, at Sports at the Beach in Georgetown. Carter has been involved in Delaware baseball since the 1960s as a player, coach and contributor.
